1099 Pro vs Tax1099: which 1099 filing tool fits your volume and workflow
One charges a flat annual fee with unlimited users; the other bills per form and already has a live MCP server - the right choice depends on volume, data source and how
Both 1099 Pro and Tax1099 will get your 1099s to the IRS without you applying for a Transmitter Control Code - each transmits under its own. That is where the similarity ends. 1099 Pro (from Sovos, in market since 1989, Audit Friendly score 71/100) charges a flat annual subscription and targets AP or tax teams filing 100 to 1,000 forms across several payers who want TIN matching, corrections and print and mail bundled into one price. Tax1099 (from Zenwork, in market since 2010, Audit Friendly score 76/100) bills per form by volume tier, syncs directly with QuickBooks Online, Xero and BILL, and already runs a vendor-hosted MCP server for teams testing AI agents.

| IN MARKET SINCE | 1989 | 2010 |
| HIRED FOR | Sovos transmits to the IRS under its own Transmitter Control Code, so the filer does not apply for an IRIS code. | Vendors and payments import from the accounting system, edits made in Tax1099 sync back, and the forms go to the IRS in a create, validate and e-file... |
| PRICING MODEL | Annual subscription by form volume; desktop license by user | Pay per form by volume tier; optional annual team plans |
| IMPLEMENTATION | Cloud setup is self-serve: sign up, load the test environment, import by Excel template or IRS 1220 file and clear validation errors; bulk TIN... | Sign-up is free and needs no credit card, and filing runs in three steps: create, validate, e-file. |
| AGENT READINESS | Exists: No. Neither 1099 Pro nor Sovos has a first-party MCP server. | Exists: Yes. Zenwork announced the Tax1099 MCP server on 11 December 2025, and the documentation at tax1099.com/ai/mcp gives the endpoint... |
| WHERE IT LOSES | Filers with well under 100 forms: the 499 dollar minimum works out near 5 dollars a form at 100 forms, and Sovos points pay-as-you-go filers to... | A platform or exchange that owes CARF, DAC7 or CRS reports outside the United States |
On price, the models diverge sharply at moderate volumes. Per the Audit Friendly review of 1099 Pro, the eFile Only plan on 1099Pro Cloud runs from $499 a year for up to 100 forms to $1,999 for 901 to 1,000, with real-time and bulk TIN matching, corrections, Combined Federal/State filing and unlimited users and payers included on every tier. The Audit Friendly review of Tax1099 notes published per-form rates of $2.99 for the first 20 forms, stepping down to $0.72 for forms 501 to 1,000, with an Audit Friendly estimate of about $267 for 100 forms and $951 for 500 - before add-ons. Add the Teams plan ($249 a year) for a second user, $0.50 per form for e-delivery and $1.95 for print and mail, and a 250-form filer on Teams with e-delivery lands near $970 for the season per the Audit Friendly estimate. At low volumes Tax1099 is cheaper; at 500 to 1,000 forms the gap narrows and 1099 Pro's flat fee starts to look cleaner.
Where the products diverge most for buyers thinking ahead is integrations and agent readiness. Tax1099 syncs both ways with QuickBooks Online, Xero and BILL; 1099 Pro imports via Excel template or IRS 1220 file only - no native connector for NetSuite, Sage Intacct or QuickBooks Online. On the agent side, Zenwork announced the Tax1099 MCP server on 11 December 2025; the Audit Friendly review of Tax1099 confirms the endpoint was live and answering OAuth challenges as of 10 October 2026, with 64 documented tools covering 12 form types plus payer and recipient operations. Sovos has said it is developing a Sovos MCP Gateway but, per the Audit Friendly review of 1099 Pro, no Sovos or 1099 Pro server appeared in the public MCP registry as of 10 October 2026 and the 1099 Professional documentation had no MCP page.
The decision rule is straightforward. If your team files 100 or more forms annually, works across multiple payers, needs a predictable annual line item, and wants print and mail or 1042-S filing included, 1099 Pro Cloud is the cleaner fit - especially if you are an existing desktop customer who needs a supported IRIS path for tax year 2026 without acquiring your own TCC. If your data lives in QuickBooks Online, Xero or BILL, your volume is under 500 forms, you want per-form economics, or you are building an agent-assisted workflow now, Tax1099 is the more practical choice. Neither product is right for teams that need a named account team, a committed response SLA, or direct ERP connectors to NetSuite, SAP or Oracle.
